Cleaning up the Trash

Spring is supposed to bring flowers right Well it also brings to light just how trashy we can be Tracie Bettenhausen has the story Sound truck driving Reporter Drive through Bismarck this time of year and you ll see some white flags Hailey Sparks So many people throw stuff out their window from the interstate Michael Knudsen Like when we come out here it s just really gross Just walking around here it s kinda nasty Sound rake Reporter This Sunday is Earth Day Michael Knudsen A lot of Taco Bell stuff and cups and just a bunch of crap that people shouldn t have been throwing out Sound stuffing into plastic bag Reporter Interstate-94 through town is taken care of by the Adopt-a-Highway Program It s run by the State Department of Transportation Spokesperson Billie Jo Lorius says the organizations who are supposed to clean up just haven t gotten to it yet Jeff Heintz And they know And I m sure they re getting geared up to get this cleaned up Lot of times it s that last week in April first week in May when you see a lot of these groups going out and cleaning the highway ditches Reporter The City of Bismarck takes care of a few roads other stretches are adopted out too Jeff Heintz Everybody seems to want to do their part which is great Because you re right there is a lot of trash laying in the ditches Reporter These students at Shiloh Christian know all too well Social Studies teacher Deb Grubb sees the evidence every day looking out the second floor window Deb Grubb We see it and we want to pick up litter So that s what Earth Day is all about Keeping our community clean Reporter Tracie Bettenhausen KX News Billie Jo Lorius at the D-O-T says Adopt-a-Highway groups usually go out in the first week of May since the weather is nicer Lorius says the volunteers are required to clean up twice a year
